Jona Desselberger

Mr. Desselberger entered the shipping industry through the sale and purchase (“S&P”) broking route in the City of London over 25 years ago. After four years, in early 1997 he moved to the U.S. to head up the S&P/Projects desk at Mallory Jones Lynch Flynn & Associates, Inc., one of the largest shipbroking houses in the country. Whilst in the U.S., Mr. Desselberger was a director of the Association of Shipbrokers and Agents (USA) Inc. (“ASBA”) as the board representative for the S&P sector. In 2004, Mr. Desselberger returned to the U.K. and co-founded GMT Maritime Limited (“GMT”). GMT established itself quickly as a leading boutique newbuilding and projects broking house in London. GMT was involved in the negotiations of about 150 newbuilding vessels ranging from VLCC-to-MRs/Capesizes-to-Handysizes/LNG carriers/Feeder-large Containerships, as well as numerous S&P deals (including renewable energy and port projects), timecharters and bareboat (lease) transactions. Mr. Desselberger was the former Head of Newbuildings at Braemar ACM Shipbroking Limited in their London headquarters. As of December 2024, Mr. Desselberger is a Managing Director of Clarksons. Mr. Desselberger received an MEng (Dainton Course) from Imperial College, London, in 1993 having been sponsored by the Ford Motor Company.
